Before Puppy Comes Home
- Puppy-proof your home — secure cables, remove toxic plants
- Set up a designated puppy area
- Buy essential supplies (see checklist below)
- Schedule first vet appointment

Day 1: Arrival
Keep things calm and quiet. Let puppy explore at their own pace. Show them their sleeping area, food and water bowls and outdoor potty spot.
First Night Tips
Expect some crying. Place a warm water bottle wrapped in a towel in the crate. A ticking clock mimics a mother heartbeat. Keep the crate near your bed.
Week 1 Schedule Template
- 6am: Wake up, immediately outside for potty
- 6:30am: Breakfast
- 7am: Outside again
- 7:30am-12pm: Play, training, nap (repeat)
- 12pm: Lunch
- 12:30pm: Outside
- 1pm-5pm: Play, training, nap (repeat)
- 5pm: Dinner
- 5:30pm: Outside
- 9pm: Last outside trip
- 9:30pm: Bedtime in crate
